Lucinda Sterk
Communications consultant, presenter, podcast host & content creator
Coffee, sugar, and a daily dose of news adrenaline. That is what keeps Lucinda going. She is both a communications expert and presenter, podcast host, and content creator. Her areas of expertise are cybersecurity and tech.
Were you a difficult or sweet child?
As a young child, I was generally very easy. Sweet, curious and I listened to my parents. In late adolescence, I started to rebel more. I have remained a rebel to this day – it helps me in my work in the technology industry, which is fast paced and often ruthless.
What drives you?
I love telling stories – through articles, podcasts, or presentations. I want to tell what is happening in cybersecurity and technology, explain in clear terms why it is important, and what its impact can be. As host of All the Cyber Ladies, I am committed to making female role models more visible and to promote diversity in tech. I love meeting so many smart, driven women, I learn so much from them. I also want to show that tech/cyber security is much more than just guys in hoodies behind laptops. It is a human story more than anything else.
Is this your ideal job?
Yes, definitely. As a communications consultant (advisor?) and content creator, I combine the best of two worlds: journalism and creativity. No two days are ever the same, and the world of tech and AI is changing so fast that my journalistic curiosity is more than satisfied. As a freelancer, I have a lot of creative freedom, which suits me very well.
Idealist or optimist?
A combination of both. I cherish the ideal of a respectful society where technology contributes to the collective well-being. So much can be achieved with technology when it is used in the right way. Technology allows children with long-term illnesses to participate in classes from home or the hospital. I think that’s wonderful.
But I am also critical: not everything that is possible should actually be done. It may be appealing, but we need to remain realistic about what technology really brings, who can and should use it, and how we use it. The ethical side of technology is often overlooked, but in my opinion that aspect will only become more important in the coming years.
What do you bring to a team?
By nature I am a very cheerful and optimistic person, but I am also a bit impatient. I like to get to the core of a communication issue quickly. I hate long meetings and am able to quickly turn an idea into a concept.
Why are you a Friend of Stark?
I am a big Stark Narrative fan and admirer. You know what they say: if you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.
